FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Vice President Kamala Harris was asked about the U.S.'s involvement in the Israel-Hamas war on her visit to Northern Arizona University on Tuesday.
She was at the school as part of her Fight For Freedom college tour. Harris has been traveling the country, visiting campuses in key battleground states in the last few weeks.
"I believe Israelis and Palestinians both deserve peace, deserve self-determination and deserve safety," Harris said in response to the student's question. "When first of all a terrorist organization, Hamas, struck Israel in the way that it did I think it is important to recognize also the distinction between a terrorist organization Hamas and the Palestinian people and civilians and they should not be conflated."
In her message to students on campus, she said several liberties are under attack, and said voting next year can guarantee those freedoms remain in place.
The vice president's trips are centered on young voters, addressing issues such as reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ issues, gun control and more.
Harris took several questions from NAU students during Tuesday's visit regarding immigration policy and voting rights.
It was the third trip to Arizona for the VP this year.
Arizona will likely be a battleground state again in the 2024 election.
