Is Donald Trump the oldest nominee for president?

With President Joe Biden's announcement he will no longer seek reelection, Trump may become the oldest nominee in the country's history.

PHOENIX — Former President Donald Trump may become the oldest nominee to run for president in United States history.

President Joe Biden announced he will no longer seek reelection on Sunday morning and followed his announcement by endorsing his running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, to be the Democratic nominee for the 2024 race.

With Biden bowing out, Trump could be the oldest nominee in American history if the person chosen by the Democratic party to challenge him is younger, Axios reports.

Harris would be 60 on Inauguration Day, which is 22 years younger than Biden. Biden and Trump are the only presidents older than 70 at the start of their terms, 10 years older than Harris would be if elected.

Even across the globe, Trump and Biden's ages are outliers. According to a report from the Washington Post, the median age of world leaders is 62.

Biden's age has come under fire since his performance at the CNN debate, a large part of the push for him to not run again for office. He is the oldest president in U.S. history and if he had run again and won, he would have been 86 by the end of his second term.

If Trump is elected, he will be 78 on Inauguration Day and 82 at the end of his term, making him the oldest president in U.S. history.
