It was the "No" vote Republicans will probably never forget.
Sen. John McCain gave a thumbs down, sinking the GOP's efforts of a "skinny repeal" of Obamacare in July of 2017.
McCain's vote received quite the reaction on the Senate floor, and apparently the Arizona Republican really enjoyed seeing stories the next day all about those reactions.
In an excerpt from his new book “The Restless Wave,” released exclusively to MSNBC's "Morning Joe," McCain writes, "I got a kick out of stories the next day that diagrammed my colleagues' reactions to my vote, pointing out the look on that senator's face and how this senator craned her neck to see better..."
According to MSNBC’s "Morning Joe," McCain also writes he did feel bad about disappointing his fellow party members.
But Arizona's senior senator actually received a call from a person who was the least bit disappointed: President Obama.
McCain writes:
Among the people who called to thank me was President Obama. I appreciated his call, but as I said, my purpose hadn't been to preserve his signature accomplishment, but to insist on a better alternative, and to give the Senate an opportunity to work together to find one. He hadn't called to lobby me before the vote, which I appreciated.
McCain's book is set to come out May 22.
