Trump won. Now, a Texas woman is leaving the country.

North Texas resident joins Y’all-itics to discuss why she’s moving abroad and how she’s helping others do the same

FORT WORTH, Texas — Jana Lynn Sanchez is a self-described “mouthy liberal.”

As such, she decided she needed an exit strategy if her side lost the election.

Democrats not only lost, but lost bigly.

And her exit strategy?

Leaving the U.S. for Holland and Spain.

“I personally have lost faith in the democratic process for sorting out the issues. The main reason being the movement of younger people and people of color towards Trump in an election when the economy was great,” Sanchez told us on Y’all-itics.

But many demographic groups, including a large number of Latino voters, pivoted to President-elect Donald Trump precisely because of the economy and their economic anxiety.

According to exit polls from several sources, 46% of Latinos voted for Trump, a record high for a Republican Presidential nominee. But when focusing on Latino men, that number jumped to 55%.

Both represent a significant step backward for Democrats.

And since the election, searches for moving abroad have skyrocketed, jumping more than 7,000% in some cases, with New Zealand topping the list.

Sanchez herself will tell you, though, she’s a bit of an outlier as it relates to folks wanting to leave the country. She’s a veteran when it comes to Europe, having already lived in the Netherlands and the U.K. for 18 years of her adult life. Her husband is Dutch, so she’ll be able to live in that country. Most folks, though, will have to worry about obtaining visas.

Her house is now on the market.

And she has no regrets.

“The voters have really gone down a very dark path in which they celebrate the rounding up and deportation of immigrants who, by the way, we need desperately for our labor system,” she argued. “So, I don’t feel good about my fellow Americans right now.”

Sanchez is facing one major complication: she comes from a Trump-supporting family. So, she says she hasn’t really discussed her upcoming move with most of her relatives.

And we asked her what she would say to those folks who would tell her not to let the door hit her on the way out.

“They’re entitled to their point of view. They’re clearly in charge now and it’s their country,” she said matter-of-factly.

The Democratic activist also discusses the tips she’s giving others who may want to exit the country as well. Listen to the entire episode to learn more. Cheers!
