MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — Tuesday was Election Day for two cities in the Valley. Residents in Tempe and Litchfield Park had some big choices to make.
In Tempe, the mayoral seat and three city council seats were up for grabs. Mayor Corey Woods ran uncontested. Incumbents Randy Keating and Doreen Garlid were running for reelection. Challenging them were Nikki Amberg, David Lucier and Hugo Tapia who had not previously held office.
Unofficial results showed Keating, Garlid and Amberg taking the three open seats.

Voters in Tempe also voted to adopt a long-term growth plan by voting "yes" for Prop 478. The General Plan 2050 allocates how the City will spend and develop over the next few decades. Proponents of the plan say it would help account for the predicted addition of over 71,000 residents by 2050. Detractors, however, worry that the allowance of more high-volume housing and skyscrapers would cut into Tempe's suburban identity.
In Litchfield Park, voters decided to become a charter city, giving Litchfield Park more local control. It will be the first new charter city since 1982 when the votes are confirmed.
