'Stay in line': Arizona Secretary of State asks voters to keep waiting, no matter how long the line to vote is at 7 p.m.

The polls officially close at 7 p.m. but if you are in line, you need to stay in line because you are still able to vote, Adrian Fontes reminds Arizonans.

PHOENIX — If you are in line to vote in Arizona at 7 p.m., Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes wants you to remember: you are still eligible to vote.

"If you are in line at 7 p.m., the official time for the closing of the polls, regardless of how long that line is, we are asking folks to stay in line," Fontes said during his second General Election update.

A poll worker called a marshal at the polling center or station you are at will go to the end of the line to vote at 7 p.m. to ensure everyone who is in line by that time is able to vote, Fontes explained.

Lines and wait times have been longer across the state with election officials pointing to high voter turnout as one reason behind these wait times.

"There are lines that are starting to form, lots of excitement at the last minute here," Fontes said. "Some of those lines are much longer than others."
