New Harris-Walz campaign ad to feature familiar face for Arizonans

MESA, Ariz. — Arizonans may recognize a familiar face in a new ad for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Mesa Mayor John Giles, a lifelong Republican and the Arizona Republicans for Harris Advisory Committee Chair, speaks to voters about why he is supporting Harris in the presidential election in the ad airing in Arizona starting today.

“I’m a lifelong Republican, but I’ve always put country over party,” Giles said. “And I know Donald Trump’s second term would be all about himself. That’s why, like so many other Republicans, I cannot support Donald Trump. Kamala Harris and I may not agree on everything, but I do know that she will always put country first.”

The new ad is part of the Harris-Walz campaign's $370 million advertising between Labor Day and Election Day and is called "Cities." It will begin airing today on local broadcast and cable programming as well as networks.

The Arizona Republicans for Harris Advisory Committee announced Sep. 24 they have 120 members, including 90 new additions.

They include former Republican state legislators Rich Crandall, Joel John, Bob Worsley, and Steve May; former Fife Symington aide Annie Mooney, Mesa City Councilmember Julie Spilsbury and Glendale City Councilmember Bart Turner. Republican donors, attorneys, and grassroots activists are also supporters.

Nationally, 230 former aides of Republican presidents and Republican campaigns are publicly supporting Harris.

Giles has become an unofficial spokesperson for disaffected Republicans on the national stage.

"The number of Arizona Republicans backing Vice President Harris is rapidly growing. It shows that we are not alone," Giles said in a statement. "Harris represents a stark contrast to the chaos and division we've seen from Trump and his allies in recent years."

Last week, Harris and Walz campaigned in Arizona with Giles, John McCain's son Jimmy, and other members of the Arizona Republicans for Harris-Walz.
