Ballots are still being counted in Arizona's largest county. Here's how many are left.

Two days after the election, ballots are still being counted in Arizona's largest county. Here's a look at just how many are left.
County Supervisor Bill Gates says the tabulation center is continuing to count ballots round the clock.

MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — Two days after the election, the fourth-largest county in the nation is still counting ballots.

Maricopa County is the largest county in Arizona and had an estimated 2.1 million people vote in the 2024 General Election. As of Thursday evening, there were an estimated 472,000 ballots left to be counted, according to election officials. The ballots are broken down into three categories:

Estimated number of early ballots left to process: 339,000
These ballots have been received and are in ballot processing, not yet signature verified, or waiting for a signature to be cured, election officials said.

Estimated number of provisional ballots: 21,000
This is the number of provisional ballots that need additional research. According to the Maricopa County election officials, there are two kinds of provisional ballots: regular and conditional.

Most provisional ballots do not require the voter to do anything additional. Election workers will research the voter’s eligibility, and if that eligibility can be confirmed, the ballot will be counted.

If you voted a provisional ballot, you check the status of your ballot here.

Estimated number of ballots ready for tabulation: 112,000
This number is a snapshot at a point in time of the number of ballots in the tabulation vault ready for tabulation," according to a news release from Maricopa County election officials.

As ballots are tabulated, additional ballots are brought in from processing and provisional ballots are being cured, so the number above may not be the amount of ballots reported in the next posting of results.
