PHOENIX — As America inches closer to the finish line of the 2024 election, Vice President Kamala Harris made what could be her final campaign stop in Valley on Thursday.
“Arizona, I'm here to ask for your vote," Harris said to thousands of her supporters at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre. “We love our country. And when you love something, you fight for it."
Harris's speech was a rallying cry for her allies just five days before Election Day. She touched on several of her priorities if elected, like protecting reproductive freedoms, lowering taxes for middle class families, and protecting social security for seniors.
In addition to the issues, Harris spoke about the importance of this election. She called it "the most consequential election of our lifetime."
That message was echoed by several of her supporters. 12News spoke with people who have already voted for Harris and are hopeful electing her will be much more than simply winning.
“It just means a path forward for America, and it just means equality for a lot of people," Jay Cedillo said.
John Teefy, a retired Phoenix Fire Captain, likened this election to a fight for democracy and said he will cast his ballot for Harris next week.
“I've never seen this type of a situation where I feel like I'm voting for the democracy that my father fought in World War II, that my grandfather fought in World War I for," Teefy said. "I feel like I'm voting for the future of this country and for democracy as we know it."
The issue that was noticeably absent from Harris speech Thursday was any mention of the southern border or calls for immigration reforms. 12News did not have the opportunity to ask Harris any questions on the issue.
Harris' running mate, Tim Walz, will make another stop in Arizona on Saturday. He will hold campaign rallies in Flagstaff and Tucson.
Harris wasn't the only candidate in Arizona Thursday as former President Donald Trump appeared in Glendale at a Tucker Carlson tour stop.
