Arizona's new election dates: Here's what you need to know

A newly signed law moves up Arizona’s primary election up one week to July 30.

ARIZONA, USA — Last week Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs signed into law legislation that gives election workers more time to tally votes after county officials complained that a 2022 change in law would make it difficult to complete counting votes in time if the results were close enough to trigger a mandatory recount.

Because of the new law, some dates to the upcoming election calendar have changed for the state. The law moves up Arizona’s primary election one week to July 30.

Key election dates

 Arizona Presidential Preference Election

Only voters registered with the participating parties can vote in the PPE. Independents have to re-register with one of the parties to vote in that party's primary.

  • Feb. 12: Voter registration deadline for the March 12 election
  • Feb. 20: Voter registration deadline for the March 19 election
  • Feb. 21: Early voting begins
  • March 19:  Presidential Preference Election (Arizona Presidential Primary)
