1-on-1 with Kari Lake after her Republican National Convention speech

Lake stuck to a message at the RNC that appealed largely to the GOP base and her reputation as a former television news anchor turned conservative firebrand.

PHOENIX — 12News Anchor Mark Curtis spoke one-on-one with Republican senate candidate Kari Lake after she spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

In her speech, Lake blasted the “fake news” for spending “the last eight years lying about President Donald Trump and his amazing patriotic supporters.”

"At your speech in front of the RNC, you had a chance to address America at a time when America in many ways is dealing with the aftermath of the attempted (Trump) assassination, and yet you chose to attack the media rather than talk about coming together as a country. Don't you think political rhetoric like that is also damaging?" Curtis asked Lake. "I mean, this is an industry, Kari, that put food on your table for years."

"Mark, because the country is coming together. The country is much more united than you report. And sadly, you guys want to keep stoking hatred toward the people who are with President Trump and support him. We've watched an eight-year smear campaign at the hands of the media against President Trump," Lake said.

"Yes I did work in the media, for 30 years I worked in the media and I worked with you, Mark. I took pride in being an honest journalist, I walked away from my career when I realized it became nothing more than propaganda," Lake added.

Lake stuck to a message at the RNC that appealed largely to the GOP base and her reputation as a former television news anchor turned conservative firebrand.

She also blamed Biden and Democrats for the situation on the U.S.-Mexico border, saying they’re “full of bad ideas.”

Several Republicans made clear that their calls for harmony and unity did not mean finding common ground with Biden and Democrats, who find themselves still riven by worries that the 81-year-old is not up to the job of defeating Trump.
