PHOENIX — More than 80 years after the attack on Pearl Harbor, a new submarine named USS Arizona will be patrolling the ocean waters again.
Officials with the USS Arizona Legacy Foundation assembled Monday night in Tempe to celebrate the new era of the USS Arizona, decades after the famous battleship sunk in 1941.
The new SSN-803 USS Arizona nuclear submarine is currently under construction in Connecticut. It will be the fourth Navy vessel to bear the "Arizona" name upon completion.
New pictures offer a glimpse of the USS Arizona submarine, which will carry torpedoes, cruise missiles and an estimated 135 crew members.
