CONCORD, N.C. — The 1992 NASCAR All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway was nicknamed “One Hot Night.”
Saturday at the track might end up being named One Long Day.
Thanks to persistent, day-long rain Friday that washed out all track activity, the NASCAR All-Star Race weekend will now take place in a single day. That includes practice sessions, the Sprint Showdown qualifying race and the Camping World Truck Series race — the latter two originally scheduled for Friday night.
It all begins with an early-bird practice session for the Sprint Showdown at 9 a.m. ET. That will be followed by an All-Star Race practice session as well as an All-Star pit road practice session to give drivers a chance to practice the unique qualifying format that takes place later Saturday.
The Sprint Showdown — where three drivers plus two fan vote winners transfer into the main event — will then run at 11 a.m. ET, followed by the Truck Series race approximately at noon.
Sprint All-Star Race qualifying will take place at 7:10 p.m. ET, followed by the race itself at 9 p.m.
Of course, more rain could throw another twist into the schedule.
The National Weather Service is calling for rain in the morning, followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms into the early afternoon.
