Body of Dutch climber retrieved from Everest

The body of a Dutch climber has been retrieved from Mount Everest.

Eric Arnold, from Rotterdam, died Friday after showing altitude sickness symptoms, the Associated Press reported. His body was retrieved by helicopter and flown to a hospital in Nepal’s capital of Kathmandu on Thursday.

Arnold, 35, was one of three people who died in three days on the “death zone” of the world’s highest peak.

He reached the summit on his fifth attempt just hours before his death. Rescuers are still trying to retrieve the bodies of the two other climbers, Australian Maria Strydom, 34, who died Saturday after succumbing to altitude sickness and Subhash Paul, an Indian national who died Sunday while being helped down the mountain by Sherpa guides.

The search continues for two Indian climbers who have been missing since the weekend. Nearly 400 people have climbed the mountain, which stands at 29,035 feet, this month.
