Mesa police: Man sexually assaulted babysitters in his home

Both young women said the assault happened at the suspect’s, Dion Earl’s, home in Mesa, near Southern and Val Vista.

MESA, Ariz. - A 45-year-old Mesa man is facing facing five charges, including sexual assault, after Mesa police said he sexually abused two babysitters, who were 21 and 18 years old.

Both young women said the abuse happened at the suspect’s, Dion Earl’s, home in Mesa, near Southern and Val Vista.

“She could've been your aunt, your sister, your daughter that this could've happened to,” said Elizabeth Ward, the 18-year-old’s mother. “We have to do something. We have to take a stand.”

Ward and the young woman’s father made that plea Wednesday afternoon in front Earl’s home.

Police documents obtained by 12 News show that on Oct. 22, the young woman, who was referred to Earl by a friend, went to his home. Police said he invited her into a bedroom.

The document continues, “Once inside the bedroom, the defendant gave the victim a hug, which she accepted. As the hug continued, the victim asked to leave. The defendant continued his embrace with the victim and purposefully fell unto a bed.”

That's when police said the sexual abuse occurred.

“Words cannot even go beyond how I feel right now,” said the young woman’s father, OD Harris. “It just makes me…it lets me know how cruel people can really be in life.”

Mesa Police documents also show that Harris’s and Ward's daughter isn't the only young woman and babysitter Earl is accused of abusing.

In September, investigators said Earl allegedly sexually assaulted and kidnapped a 21-year-old woman. They said he invited that young woman into a bedroom, as well.

Police documents continue, “When she entered the defendant was completely nude and grabbed the victim, pulling her onto his bed. The defendant pinned the victim's arm under his body, preventing her from escaping.”

Police said the sexual assault ensued.

Earl was still in jail Wednesday evening. Police documents say Earl's descriptions of the incidents "evolved into (him) describing the victims being aggressively sexual towards him.”

Mesa police said they lacked sense and credibility, so they put the two independent cases together and arrested Earl at the end of last month.

Earl has never been charged with sexual assault before this case, but was accused of it by multiple women in the Seattle area. Those women sued Earl and he was ordered to pay them almost a million dollars in a lawsuit.
