MESA, Ariz. — A police officer exchanged gunfire with a man after responding to a domestic violence call Monday morning, authorities said.
According to Mesa police, the incident happened near Baseline and Ellsworth roads just after 1 a.m. A caller reported a man was acting out and had thrown a stroller into a pool at an apartment complex in the area.
Officers arrived to find 23-year-old Ryan Coley Austin had a gun in his waistband.
According to Mesa PD, an officer tried to stop Austin when gunfire was exchanged.
Austin was not injured in the shooting and fled the area, police said. No officers were injured.
Detectives later took Austin into custody and a handgun was found at the scene of the shooting, police said.
