Verify: Is President Trump's approval rating higher than President Obama?

This morning, the president tweeted, "Thank you to Rasmussen for the honest polling. Just hit 50%, which is higher than Cheatin' Obama at the same time in his Administration."

Between staff shakeups and an adult film star's lawsuit, it's an unpredictable time for President Donald Trump. But he has proven to be resilient.

This morning, the president tweeted, "Thank you to Rasmussen for the honest polling. Just hit 50%, which is higher than Cheatin' Obama at the same time in his Administration."

Mr. Trump is referring to Monday's Rasmussen daily tracking Poll that shows 50 percent of responders approve of his job performance and 49 percent disapprove. It represents a gradual upward trend from 39 percent a month ago.

12 News can verify that President Obama had a 46 percent approval rating in the same poll during the same time of his administration.

The Rasmussen Poll is the most favorable to President Trump. Overall ratings are less complimentary.

The statistical analysis website FiveThirtyEight.com takes into account five major polls and shows President Trump's overall approval ratings are at an average of 40.6 percent today.

FiveThirtyEight also suggests President Trump's overall average approval rating for his first year in office was worse than any modern president. Trump had a -15 net approval compared to John F. Kennedy's +69.

But of course, as President Trump has proven in the past, the polls can underestimate him.
