Woman hospitalized with critical injuries after pedestrian-involved crash in Phoenix

Police initially said the driver fled the scene, but later clarified to say that the driver was parked away from the crash and remained on scene.

PHOENIX — A woman is hospitalized with critical injuries after she was struck by a car on the Interstate 17 overpass in Phoenix early Wednesday. 

The woman, who was not immediately identified, was struck on the I-17 overpass at Dunlap Avenue around 5:45 a.m., police said. 

She was seen by witnesses laying on the roadway and was initially transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

Police initially said the driver fled the scene, but later clarified to say that the driver was parked away from the crash and remained on scene. 

Detectives are on scene. The intersection remains restricted.
