Man dead following west Phoenix crash

Police said the crash happened near 27th Avenue and Camelback Road.

PHOENIX — EDITOR'S NOTE: The Phoenix Police Department initially reported a woman had died in the crash but has since updated information identifying the deceased individual as a man.

A man has died following a crash in west Phoenix, according to authorities.

The Phoenix Police Department said the crash happened near 27th Avenue and Camelback Road on Wednesday night.

The Phoenix Fire Department rushed the man to an area hospital but he did not survive his injuries.

Police said the victim was a passenger in a car involved in a collision with a tow truck. 

The car's driver fled the scene of the crash, according to police. That individual was later located by police and taken to the hospital for treatment.

The victim's name has not been released.

Witnesses told detectives the car was hit by the tow truck while exiting a private driveway.

The tow truck's driver did not show any signs of impairment

Calls to Silent Witness are answered 24/7 by a live person and submitted tips are accepted at all times. Submitted tips are then sent to the detective(s) in charge of the specific case.

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
