MESA, Ariz. — Three officers were allegedly attacked by a woman in Mesa, the city's police department said.

Mesa police officers responded to the area of Extension and Broadway roads for a burglary call for service on July 6.

One officer asked the person at the residence, later identified as Alaijia James, if she lived at the residence and she said no.

James then made a fist, clenching her car keys through her fingers to make a pointed end, and allegedly hit the officer multiple times in the face. The officer sustained one injury next to her eye, and one injury on her cheek, near her mouth and neck. The officer also broke her radio earpiece and G-shock watch during the alleged attack.

Two additional officers came to the scene to help the first officer, according to court documents. While officers were trying to arrest James, one officer sustained a scratch on his forearm and another officer was kicked in the groin area.

James was taken into custody after being tased four times and control holds were used, according to court documents.

Police were not able to interview James as "she did not appear coherent" and was not talking to officers at the scene, court documents stated.

According to court documents, James is facing three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, one count of aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument and one count of criminal damage.
