Westbound Interstate 10 in West Valley reopens after deadly crash

The crash closed the westbound lanes of the highway at Verrado Way in Buckeye. The lanes reopened around 8:30 a.m.

PHOENIX — At least one person is dead after a car crash on the Interstate 10 in the West Valley early Friday.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said the crash closed the westbound lanes of the highway at Verrado Way in Buckeye. The lanes reopened around 8:30 a.m.

The crash took place at milepost 118, in the area of Watson Road.

All westbound traffic was forced to exit the freeway at Verrado Way.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for a short time, but they were quickly reopened.

No other information about the crash was immediately known.

In a separate incident, authorities also used a Taser on a driver who allegedly ran a roadblock near the crash.

Troopers were set up along the shoulder of the westbound lanes of the I-10 before the crash scene to stop vehicles from driving on the shoulder to pass traffic.

A driver proceeded on the shoulder, almost hitting a patrol car, authorities said.

Troopers attempted to pull the car over, but the driver fled, authorities said.

The vehicle was spiked and stopped and three occupants emerged, one with a knife.

That person, the unidentified female driver, was tazed and taken into custody.

There were two children in the vehicle. They were released to family.

This is a developing situation. Stay tuned to 12 News for the latest.
