PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz.- Arizona Diamondbacks legend Luis Gonzalez continues to be an Arizona hero years after he retired from the game.
Gonzalez, or Gonzo as so many call him, sprung to action to help pull a woman out of her smashed car after her vehicle was struck in a head-on collision Friday in Paradise Valley.
Art Cuffari, a friend of Gonzalez, captured video of the former baseball player's heroic action from the scene.
Cuffari said he and Gonzalez witnessed the accident as they were driving by Friday afternoon. One car jumped the traffic median and crashed into the woman’s car, then burst into flames.
In a tweet, Cuffari said the “game winning hit in the World Series was nothing compared to seeing Luis Gonzalez pull a stranger from her car right after she was hit head on.”

Diamondbacks fans already considered Gonzo a hero for his game-winning hit in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series against the New York Yankees. He played with the snakes from 1999-2006. In 2010, Gonzalez became the first Diamondbacks player to have his number, #20, retired.
