Video shows interior and exterior views leading up to the crash.

TEMPE, Ariz. - Tempe police have released footage of the moments leading up to a pedestrian being hit and killed by a self-driving Uber Sunday night.

RAW VIDEO: Police release video of moments leading up to fatal self-driving Uber crash

The video shows the exterior view of the Uber vehicle leading up to the crash, but it does not show the collision itself because of the graphic nature of the impact. The woman, 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg, was trying to cross Mill Avenue just south of Curry Road. She was not in a crosswalk.

It also shows the interior view of the safety driver, 44-year-old Rafaela Vasquez, in the moments before the crash.

Uber released a statement in response to the video:

“The video is disturbing and heartbreaking to watch, and our thoughts continue to be with Elaine’s loved ones. Our cars remain grounded, and we're assisting local, state and federal authorities in any way we can.”

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
