Neighbors said packs of coyotes have taken over their Arcadia neighborhood near Indian School Road and 56th Street. It started just a few months ago and while they've seen coyotes before, they claim it's never been this many.

"We're seeing them in everybody's yards," said Jan Sapanaro.

Sapanaro has had a few run-ins with the animals herself. She claims to have seen them carrying dead cats in their mouths and was even chased by three of them while out for a walk one night.

"I ran into a neighbor's house, and that was the start of my fearfulness in the neighborhood," Sapanaro said.

Another neighbor Tina Higgins has video of one coyote perched on top of a home and another video that showed a coyote and about four of her pups running into someone's front yard.

"Very unnerving to the people that are afraid to go out in the evening for a walk," Sapanaro said.

She and other neighbors claim some pets have been attacked and killed by the coyotes. It led to dozens of residents coming together to hire a trapper to capture the coyotes.

"Every day he would come for a month, and he would come and check the traps three times a day," Sapanaro said. "We only caught one."

Arizona Game and Fish has also been out to the neighborhood according to Sapanaro where she believes one coyote was captured. Still, she wishes more can be done.

"We all know not to feed we don't leave food out," she said. "We've all closed up our pet doors."

Game and Fish said coyotes will take advantage of any food source from pet food to pets themselves. For those who do come across one, they recommend making loud noises and not running away from the coyote who may see it as an opportunity to chase.

12News reached out to Game and Fish for comment. A spokesperson said they are holding a meeting with residents next Friday to discuss the situation. Again, Sapanaro hopes it will be more than a conversation and that action will be taken.
