PHOENIX — The Camelback High School Spartan's football season is nearly over, but parents of students met with school administration to discuss serious allegations made against some of the school's football players.
On Thursday, parents of players received an e-mail from the school's principal that read in part, that the school recently became aware of allegations involving "inappropriate behavior" displayed by some members of the team.
12News went to the high school and spoke with parents as they left the meeting that lasted about 20 minutes. Some parents said they were shocked to learn this was happening. They also said no specific details were given on the allegations, just that there was an ongoing investigation and they needed to speak with their kids about it. One parent also said there were multiple instances of inappropriate behavior happening.
Phoenix Union High School District said they are aware of the situation and have contacted local law enforcement to investigate.
The district sent a statement to 12News that read:
"Recently, we became aware of allegations of inappropriate behavior by some members of the Camelback High School Football Team. In partnership with District leadership, campus administration immediately launched an investigation and contacted local law enforcement. We take all misconduct allegations seriously and investigate them fully in accordance with the PXU Code of Conduct, Governing Board policy, and the applicable state statutes.
Tonight, Camelback High School administration proactively met with football families to partner, share information, and remind our student athletes about the support systems in place. All families of students believed to be involved were contacted, and we are working with them to provide the necessary resources for any impacted students. Additional assistance is available for students and staff, if needed.
As always, families can contact PXU’s confidential tip line at (602)764-SAFE (7233) with information about this or any other matter. The tip line is monitored during regular business hours. If you have time-sensitive or emergency information, please contact law enforcement directly.
The investigation into these allegations is ongoing and requires the protection of private information concerning minors."
