TOLLESON, Ariz. — The Tolleson Elementary School District announced Monday its board members had filed a complaint against Mayor Juan Rodriguez, accusing the elected official of unprofessional behavior following a recent school board meeting.

Board members claim Rodriguez violated the City of Tolleson’s Code of Conduct after the mayor allegedly confronted them in the district office parking lot after a meeting on Sept. 11 when the board appointed a new superintendent.

The school board members claim the mayor loudly challenged the board's decision in a "threatening manner."

“While we respect the Mayor’s right to express his views, we believe that public officials must model the behavior we expect from our students and community,” board members said in a collective statement. “This incident raises serious concerns about the safety and well-being of our Governing Board members and the respect they deserve.”

The school board has asked the City of Tolleson to investigate the allegations.

12News has reached out to the city about the school board's complaint and has not yet gotten a response. Mayor Rodriguez's biography page on the city's website states that his wife is a Tolleson school teacher.
