After responding to a 'chaotic scene,' officers found a toddler who had been shot. That child is not fighting for their life in the hospital.

The shooting happened near Seventh and Southern avenues on Saturday afternoon. Here's what we know.

PHOENIX — A toddler is in the hospital fighting for their life after a shooting that police say was accidental and self-inflicted. 

Phoenix police told 12News that officers were called to a shooting at a home just northwest of Seventh and Southern Avenues at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

When officers got to the scene, they found multiple people outside of the home. 

"During the chaotic scene, officers located a toddler with a gunshot wound," Phoenix police said. "The child was rushed to the hospital with a life-threatening injury." 

Police said their initial investigation showed that the shooting happened accidentally and that the shooting was self-inflicted.  

Police added that the child is expected to survive and one person has been detained. 

Detectives are at the home investigating the shooting and the child is being treated at a nearby hospital. 

No one involved in this shooting has been identified.
