Maricopa County Primary: Why voters say they headed to the polls

Voters who spoke with 12News said specific issues drove them to take part in Tuesday's primary.

PHOENIX — More than 44,000 checked into voting centers on Primary Election Day to cast a ballot in Maricopa County.

Voters who cast their ballot at the Church of Beatitudes, located on 7th Street and Glendale Avenue said they had particular issues on their mind this election season.

Lorenzo Salomon said he cast his vote for his four daughters.

"Women's rights is a very important thing," Salomon said. "[It] was very important to me that their rights are being heard, seen, supported and secured and I feel this is one important election for that."

One voter said it's important to vote because because "If you don't vote when you have the opportunity, you may lose that right at some point."

Jack Chait voted for the first time and said there was one issue that was important to him.

"I think in our state, gun violence," Chait said. "So people who support protecting gun laws and stuff like that."

Connie, a voter, said she felt the country needs to be managed by confident leadership and said she keeps "peace, unity and joy" in mind as she casts her ballot.

"I believe [we] can stop bashing each other and calling names and that will bring unity," Connie said.
