US Marshals involved in shooting at Tempe home; 1 dead

Marshals were trying to take a fugitive into custody when shots were fired, officials said.

TEMPE, Ariz. — The U.S. Marshals East Valley Task Force shot and killed a person while trying to take a fugitive into custody in Tempe on Thursday, officials with the US Marshals Service said. 

It is not clear if it was the fugitive who was killed.

The fugitive was wanted by Chandler police on warrants for burglary, trafficking in stolen property, and felony flight, officials said. Marshals tried to take the person into custody near Southern Avenue and McClintock Drive on Thursday afternoon. 

A house caught fire and was destroyed during the incident. The East Valley Critical Incident Response Team will investigate the shooting.

No other details were given. 12News is working to get more information.
