TEMPE, Ariz. - There were chaotic moments early Tuesday morning for a Tempe couple, after they reported hearing an explosion and then seeing flames in their backyard.
The fire started in a duplex near Scottsdale and Curry roads. Tempe fire says the call came in around 2 a.m.
Flames quickly reached the house, burning in the attic and causing a lot of the damage to one side of the duplex. They're trying to figure out what the explosion was.
The other side of the duplex was empty and being renovated. It received some damage.
The Red Cross is helping the couple while their home is put back together.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause.
