PHOENIX — Phoenix police said a teen allegedly involved in a stabbing that resulted in the death of another teen in Ahwatukee has been identified.
Officials released a statement Wednesday and said the teen has spoken with investigators about the stabbing death of 15-year-old Jaylen Reeves but no arrests have been made.
"Detectives are actively working this investigation and to this point have interviewed multiple witnesses, served search warrants, and impounded many items of evidence," the statement said. "No arrest has been made at this time."
Jaylen Reeves was stabbed to death on Nov. 16.
Phoenix police said the teen was hanging out with his friends at a park near 40th Street and Chandler Boulevard when a fight broke out with people they did not know.
Since his death, the community came together and created a memorial at the park where Reeves was stabbed. A show of love and support that is helping the family during this devastating time.
“It’s a wound so deep I feel like it’s a brand on my heart," said Carla Medina-Reeves, Jaylen's grandmother. “He’s our love. My first grandbaby.”
On Wednesday hours after police released the update she spoke with 12News for the first time. While she and the family are happy progress is being made in this case, she knows they have a long road ahead of them.
“We just want justice for Jaylen.”
The family created a GoFundMe page to help pay for memorial costs. Click here to donate.
Investigators still ask anyone with information regarding this case to call the Phoenix Police Department or remain anonymous by contacting Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS, 480-TESTIGO or silentwitness.org.
