3 men found in stolen car lead Surprise police on foot chase through neighborhood

Surprise police, along with the SWAT team, could be seen on Sky12 with guns drawn taking K-9 officers around a neighborhood near Waddell and Reems roads.

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Three people were arrested after a suspicious activity call in Surprise led police on a chase with men in a stolen car, Surprise police said.

Surprise police officers responded to the call of suspicious activity near Waddell and Reems roads just after 2 p.m. Officers learned a vehicle was stolen out a neighboring jurisdiction and attempted to contact three men inside in the vehicle. All three men fled on foot from the officers, police said.

The SWAT team could be seen on Sky12 going through a neighborhood with guns drawn and K-9 officers while searching for the men.

All three were caught and are in police custody, police said. One of the men had a gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said it is unknown how or where the suspect sustained a gunshot wound.

"We believe the gunshot wound happened before police contact," the Surprise police public information officer told 12News. "To be clear, no officers discharged their firearms during this incident."

The Surprise Police Department is working with another West Valley jurisdiction on the investigation. The other jurisdiction was not named.
