Suspect in central Phoenix shooting flees scene before officers arrive, police say

The man who was shot remains in the hospital in extremely critical condition, Phoenix police say.

PHOENIX — One person remains in extremely critical condition following a shooting in central Phoenix, the city's police department said.

Phoenix police officers were called to a shooting near McDowell Road and 16th Street just after 2 a.m. on Sunday. When officers got to the scene, they found a man with a gunshot wound.

The fire department took the man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police officers searched the are, but said the suspect left before they arrived. 

The man who was shot remains in extremely critical condition at the hospital.

Police did not say who the man or the suspect are, or what led up to the shooting.
