Surprise police officer shoots 1 while responding to a report of domestic violence dispute

The person was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

SURPRISE, Ariz. — A man is dead after being shot by a Surprise police officer, police said.

Surprise police officers responded to a home near Waddell and Dysart roads around 3 a.m. Sunday for a report of a domestic violence dispute.

As officers were entering the home, a woman ran outside and her husband, 44-year-old Trinidad Ledesma, reportedly confronted the officers with a shotgun.

It was at that point that the officer shot Ledesma, who died on the scene despite medical aid from police.

Police did not give any further details regarding what led up to the shooting or how Ledesma was involved in the domestic violence dispute.

No police officers were injured and there is no threat to the surrounding community, police said.

The Buckeye Police Department will investigate this incident as part of the West Valley Investigative Response Team protocols.
