ASU held an open house for fans at the newly renovated Sun Devil Stadium Saturday.
Phase one of construction is complete and students will play a bigger role during the games. Seating behind the end zones on both ends of the field will be for the students. ASU football coach Todd Graham wants the students to be that extra layer of defense.
The new seating for students will change how other fans get to their seats.
"Fans are used to walking around the perimeter of the field and to be able to walk up to the stands. That is completely changed," said Maggie Emmons. Specialist, Corporate Communications for Sun Devil Athletics. "So were asking fans to kind of walk up the ramps to the main concourse levels and load down into the seats."
The concession area underneath the south end zone seating is now enclosed with large ceiling fans to help the airflow. The concession stand and restrooms are also renovated.
Other improvements include better seating for fans with disabilities along with enhanced wifi and cellular service.
"They'll have more connectivity. Will be able to check scores. Really connect with Sun Devil Athletics. Have their stuff go on the video board. It's really going to enhance the game day experience overall," said Emmons.
The first home game is September 12 against Cal Poly.
