Fundraiser held tonight for Desert Vista High School student who passed away

Zzeeks Pizza will donate 20% of sales to the Mingot-Santiago family.

PHOENIX — A fundraiser is being held for the family of a Desert Vista High School student who died in late October. Zzeeks Pizza will donate 20% of their sales on November 13th to help with the Mingot-Santiago family's expenses.

They're also hosting raffles from local community partners, and 100% of raffle sales will go to the family.

The Phoenix Police Department told 12News they responded to Desert Vista on Friday afternoon, Oct. 27, for a report of an injured student. The school was placed on lockdown, but district officials said there was no threat to students.

A police spokesman said the injured student was transported to the hospital, but district officials said the student later died.

It's unclear what led to the injuries, officials have not released that information.

Crisis response teams were at the school Monday to help students affected by the death.

Flowers and signs were piled outside the student entrance to the school Monday morning.

The Tempe Union High School District issued the following statement:

"The Tempe Union HS District and Governing Board was deeply saddened by the death of a Desert Vista student this past weekend.

Desert Vista’s crisis team, as well as the District’s crisis response team and key community partners such as CARE7 will be on campus this week to help students and staff affected by this loss. Specific information on how to access these resources will be released to the DV community directly via email.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of this student. We know our entire Desert Vista community is devastated by this loss and we encourage anyone who needs it to seek support."
