PHOENIX — The search for 22-year-old Oswaldo Montoya is still underway after the warehouse he worked in collapsed during Wednesday night's severe weather.
Firefighters are not going inside due to the instability of the building. Rescue efforts started again early Thursday morning.
"We will be out here for as long as it takes," Phoenix Fire Captain and Public Information Officer Todd Keller said during a news conference on Thursday afternoon.
Montoya is the father of a 2-week-old baby and had worked at the facility for around a year, family told 12News. Keller said at this time, he does not know whether or not Montoya is alive.
A search and rescue dog was sent into the building to try and find Montoya, Phoenix fire officials said. Phoenix fire also deployed cameras and drones into the building.
Thursday afternoon Phoenix fire officials confirmed that two rescue dogs had alerted to the same spot.
A secondary collapse is a safety concern for firefighters, Keller explained during the news conference.
"Our first concern is the safety of our firefighters. We do know that someone is inside so we are going to take our time," Keller told 12News.
"That's Moxie. That dog will go inside and is trained to find people that are trapped but right now the possibility of the other three walls collapsing is our main concern," Keller said.
12News crews were moved away from the building due to the danger of the building collapsing.
Storms that moved through Phoenix produced winds up to 70 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Officials believe that it was a microburst that damaged the warehouse.
