1 dead, nearby schools in lockdown following Valley shooting

Avondale police say schools are in lockdown as a precautionary measure and they are attempting to locate involved parties now.

AVONDALE, Ariz. — A man is dead following a shooting in Avondale, the city's police department said.

Avondale police responded to reports of shots fired at the parking lot of Number One Buffet on Monday afternoon. The restaurant is located near 101st Avenue and McDowell Road.

When police got to the area, they found a man with what appeared to be a gunshot wound in a passenger vehicle. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from the Avondale Police Criminal Investigations Bureau are responding to investigate, police said. 

Avondale police are attempting to locate any involved parties in the area and nearby schools have been placed on a precautionary lockdown, police said.

No other information was released.
