Shot fired at suspect by Chandler officer after weapon pointed at officer, PD says

CHANDLER, Ariz. — Chandler police say one of its officers fired a gunshot at a suspect during an altercation early Sunday morning.

The incident happened just before 2 a.m. when officers were called to a home in the area of Ray and Alma School roads after neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots from a nearby home.

"Upon arrival, officers set up a perimeter in the alleyway behind the residence. Shortly after, officers heard multiple rounds being fired from the backyard of the home," Chandler PD said in a news release.

One of the responding officers fired a shot after they saw a suspect point a weapon in their direction, the police department said.

No one was injured during the altercation.

The officers found three people inside a home who have been detained, police said.

The incident is now under investigation by the Mesa Police Department as part of the EVCIRT protocols.
