MESA, Ariz. — A man is injured after a shooting between two groups of people in a parking lot in Mesa.
Mesa police received a call at 1 a.m. of a possible shooting near Main Street and Stapley Drive. When officers got to the scene, they spoke to a security guard who said that a shooting occurred in the parking lot and that two people involved in the shooting left in two separate vehicles.
Police found a man inside of a car in the parking lot who was shot. The man was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said, and appears to be "an innocent bystander."
Detectives said the shooting appears to have started over an altercation between two groups that spilled into the parking lot. The two groups of people began firing at one another and struck the man who was found in his vehicle.
Police did not release the name of the man who was shot or any other information regarding what led up to the incident.
