SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Scottsdale Fire Department was called to a fire Saturday started by a construction crew... and it wasn't the first time.
The department is asking construction crews to "be proactive" to prevent fires that start on a job site and spread into the nearby desert area.
"Dear construction workers, please stop starting brush fires in our desert," the department said in a social media post with an attached letter with fire safety recommendations.
Saturday's fire started near 123rd Street and Black Rock Road and grew into a "quick-moving three-acre brush fire," the department said.
"Many brush fires start from sparks from chains, cutting, welding, and grinding metals, which are common on residential construction sites," fire officials said. "With these types of activities regularly and are often adjacent to the Preserve, these quickly became the focus for targeted efforts by the Prevention Division in 2020 and continues today."
Crews were still mopping up hot spots Saturday afternoon.
