Police: Body recovered from Tempe Town Lake identified as 47-year-old

Dive crews spent three hours Monday night searching the lake but nothing was found until Tuesday morning, officials said.

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department Dive Team has recovered a body during a "recovery operation" Tuesday morning for a person who reportedly swam two-thirds across Tempe Town Lake, became submerged and wasn't seen again.

12News crews at the Lake saw officials pulling the person from the water shortly after 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

The deceased individual has been identified as 47-year-old Michael Reyes.

A resident at a nearby apartment saw the person in the water on Monday, officials with the Tempe Fire Department said in a statement.

"The resident filmed the swimmer but didn't call for help until 40 minutes later," the statement said.
