Rock climber hurt in long fall on north Scottsdale trail

Scottsdale and Phoenix technical rescue crews are on the scene at Tom's Thumb Trail.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Rescue crews are on the scene at Tom's Thumb Trail after a rock climber was seriously hurt in a roughly 30- to 40-foot fall, officials with the Scottsdale Fire Department said.

As of 10 a.m., technical rescue crews from Scottsdale and Phoenix are preparing to airlift her out of the area.

According to early reports, the 34-year-old woman was wearing a helmet at the time of the fall.

This is an active scene and officials expect to have more information soon.

The woman's identity and what led up to the fall is currently unknown.
