House fire in Mesa leaves 1 dead

Mesa police were called to the home around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.

MESA, Ariz. — One person is dead after an early-morning house fire in Mesa, city police confirmed.

First responders were called to a house fire near Broadway and Power roads around 2:30 a.m. While Mesa police officers evacuated nearby residences, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.

"Unfortunately Fire personnel located a person inside the house who, despite being treated by medical personnel, was pronounced deceased at the scene," officials said.

Police and fire investigators are working to learn more about the cause of the fire. The person's identity hasn't been released.
