The New York Times is reporting that Uber’s self-driving cars were having problems months before the fatal crash in Tempe.
According to the New York Times, the self-driving vehicles were having issues while operating through construction zones and next to other taller cars.
The New York Times says, according to a 100-page report they got from Uber, that the vehicles were struggling to meet the company's target of 13 miles per intervention in Arizona.
In comparison, Waymo, which also operates self-driving cars in the Valley, told the New York Times that during tests on California roads last year, its cars would go about 5,600 miles before a driver had to take control and steer from trouble.
Uber CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, is expected to visit Arizona in April.
