BUCKEYE, Ariz. — A West Valley man is being honored for helping to save the lives of two men who overdosed at a gas station.

On July 26, Buckeye police officers were called to the QuikTrip gas station near the intersection of Miller Road and Durango Street due to a report of two men overdosing.

When officers arrived, they found the men in a car. A man who worked at the gas station, identified as Sergio, jumped in and helped the officers treat the men.

Buckeye police said Sergio helped the officers at the scene get the men out of the car they were in and check for pulses. He also helped an officer get the naloxone she carried in her vest while the officer was performing CPR on one of the men who was overdosing.

"He didn't even hesitate for a second, jumped right in," Officer Robin Brown said in a video released by the department.

Both of the men survived.

"I believe that he truly assisted in saving not one, but two lives that day," Brown said.

Due to his actions, the Buckeye Police Department and the Buckeye Fire and Medical Rescue Department honored Sergio with the Community Member Lifesaving Award.
