WITTMANN, Ariz. — A pregnant Arizona woman is grieving the loss of her fiancé, father and brother after a get-together at her family's house turned deadly last week.
Janie Rios, 21, says she heard gunfire outside her Wittmann home and soon after, her fiancé, Adrian Miramontes, rushed inside for help.
“And I told him, ‘You’re having another baby! You’re having another baby! Stay strong.. Stay here with me,'" Rios said.
For almost an hour, Rios says she tried to help Miramontes by talking to him and applying pressure on his gunshot wound, but first responders didn't arrive soon enough to save his life.
Police say 35-year-old Hermelindo Sanchez allegedly shot and killed Rios' father, Juan Rios, her brother, Julio Rios, along with her fiancé.
According to court paper work, Sanchez had been drinking beer with Juan. At one point, the suspect made a comment about becoming Janie Rios' boyfriend one day. After that, her brother and her fiancé became confrontational with the suspect.
Sanchez left the Rios home, but came back and that's when gunfire was heard.
A motive is still unclear as the Rios family tries to comprehend what could have possibly caused the bloody murders. Court documents reveal Hermelindo told police he left the property when the men became confrontational. He even said there was no physical altercation at any point, but later changed his story when detectives brought up evidence that says otherwise.
“Don’t drink. Don’t do drugs, just don’t do it," Janie Rios said. "To be honest with you because if you’re going to do it and start acting the way this guy did towards my family-- I mean he killed my dad, he killed my brother-- If you’re going to start doing that, you don’t know how many lives you’re hurting,”
The 35 year-old suspect stated in his initial court appearance that he’s not going to say anything, including if he’s guilty, until he has a lawyer. Sanchez is jailed on $1 million cash-only bond.
A GoFundMe account has also been created to support the family's funeral expenses.
