MESA, Ariz. — A Mesa homeowner experienced an "explosive" incident on Thursday, the city's police department said.
Mesa police officers were dispatched to a home near State Route 87 and Guadalupe Road around 9:30 p.m. in response to a "shots fired" call.
The homeowner told police he received an alert from his front door camera about someone outside. When he approached the door, he heard a loud bang, and the glass on his front door shattered. The homeowner suffered a small cut to his head.
When the homeowner opened the door, he found "extensive damage" to his front entryway, far exceeding what a gunshot would cause, police said.
Mesa police said they believe the incident involved a large firework or another explosive device. Police said they have a "vague description" of a possible suspect and a vehicle but did not provide any further information regarding the incident.
