PHOENIX — A man is dead after he shot at someone sitting in a truck and was subsequently hit by the truck, but the cause of his death remains unclear.
The Phoenix Police Department started investigating the scene near 51st Avenue and Hadley Street after getting reports of the shooting Tuesday afternoon.
After the suspect shot at the victim several times, the victim then pulled forward in his truck and struck the shooter, who was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The man was later pronounced dead at the hospital and has yet to be identified by police.
Police said it appears the suspect died after shooting himself.
The victim, who also has yet to be identified by police, was not directly struck by the gunfire but was injured by possible bullet fragments, officers said. He was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

What is the Valley?:
“The Valley” is what locals call the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. It is considered the largest metropolitan area in the Southwest.
The Valley is made up of various major cities other than Phoenix, including:
- Mesa
- Chandler
- Scottsdale
- Tempe
- Glendale
- Surprise
- Peoria
- Gilbert
- El Mirage
- Avondale
- Litchfield Park
- Goodyear
- Buckeye
Whether a city is in the “East Valley” or “West Valley” depends on where it is in relation to Phoenix.
The cities of the Valley have a combined population of 4,845,832 people, according to the 2020 United States Census. This makes it the 11th largest metropolitan area in the country right behind the Boston and Atlanta areas.
