TEMPE, Ariz. — A suspect is dead after pointing a gun at Tempe police officers Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.
The Tempe Police Department said officers responded to an apartment complex near Priest Drive and Baseline Road to speak to a suspect, later identified as Jake Carruth, 44, after reports that he had threatened a person with a gun earlier in the day.
Officers went to the Carruth's apartment, who refused to open the door and talked to officers through a window, officials said. Officers stepped back to a more safe location and continued to speak with Carruth, who briefly came out of the apartment before going back inside, officials said.
Carruth came out of the apartment again, armed with a gun, which he pointed at the two officers, police said. He was then shot by the officers and killed, police said.
The officers were not injured in the incident, police said.
The shooting will be investigated by the Mesa Police Department.
